Kendrick Girls School Sports Hall
Reading Berkshire
New Build
Following the generation of funds from the sale of derelict land owned by Kendrick School, the school’s governors appointed Integrated Design Consultants to design a new state of the art sports facility.
The building, on the edge of one of Reading’s few Conservation areas formed one of the public faces of the school. It comprised a four court badminton hall and a first floor gym studio and a dance studio overlooking the main hall, as well as changing facilities and dining area.
The sports hall was designed to address the streetscape of the conservation area echoing the traditional massing and house elevations found in the area whilst acknowledging that the buildings function is modern and non domestic. The side elevations to the school are more open and informal with a layering of facades and roof forms.
The junction of these two façades is articulated by a corner of curtain walling enclosing and signalling the foyer to the sports hall and the schools new public reception.
