New Library and IT Facilities Crossfield School

This competition scheme for a new Library and IT Facilities proposed the demolition of the existing Single Storey Workshop and the redevelopment of the site to complete the courtyard currently formed by the Two Teaching Blocks and the Gymnasium.
Orientated to the front of the School and facing the main entrance the proposed scheme comprising a new Library and IT Facilities was designed to form a landmark building highlighting the schools development and forward thinking, whilst also being sympathetic to the original listed school buildings and the existing composition of buildings on site.
The new Library and IT Facilities were located to one side of the entrance foyer, leading the visitor around the quarter circle plan to the old school reception building. The double height space within the new building is divided by a mezzanine level while the fully glazed façade curves round and slopes from top to bottom, creating an dynamic and inspiring study space for the pupils.
From the foyer, stairs and a lift provide access to six general teaching classrooms on the first floor.
The ground floor accommodates one large hobby room for sixth form use, one graphics room and a large technology room with separate spaces for preparation and storage.
Covered walkways run along both front and rear of the new teaching block, providing shelter and continuing the arcaded links that are present along the existing buildings but with a contemporary style
