Guru Nanak Primary school
Hayes. Middlesex
New Build
The Phase 1 works at the Guru Nanak Sikh VA schools consists of a new build 2 FE primary school located on the site of the previous 1960’s constructed School buildings. Integrated Design Consultants worked with the school to gain the required DfES funding and planning permissions which required extensive negotiation as the site is within the green belt on the edge of a country park that is transformed into an area of outstanding Natural Beauty.
The £4.8M primary school has been designed to address the street scene and to reduce the apparent mass of the expanded school by stepping down the facade from the 1970’s secondary school to ward the open playing fields to the left. Included in this phase of works at Guru Nanak is the creation of a new dining and kitchen area suitable for both the expanded primary and secondary schools.
Traditional materials have been used throughout to produce a building whose scale and finish is child friendly whilst the plan has been manipulated by inserting curved spaces producing a coherent yet exciting place to teach and learn. |
