Fullbrook School Dining Room and Classroom Extension
Woodham, Surrey
Extensions
The new extension at Fullbrook School was designed to replace the schools existing inadequate temporary provisions on site. It comprises an open plan dining hall seating 270 pupils on the ground floor, extending from the existing kitchen and servery, thus freeing up the main hall behind for curriculum activities and three new general teaching classrooms on the first floor.
The new extension has been positioned to infill an existing 3 sided open courtyard to the front of the school making use of an under used external space whilst having no detrimental effect on the schools external play areas and acting as a visible sign of the schools continuing development. The scheme therefore serves both as an improvement for the schools teaching and support provisions, and as a visual public statement of the schools forward thinking.
It has been designed to be both sympathetic to the surrounding buildings with the red brick plinth addressing the single storey to the front and the horizontally laid flat panels referencing the rendered features of the main school as well as being visibly modern by using a contemporary wave profiled roof to accommodate the change in adjacent roof levels. |
