Sports Hall and Teaching Block, Langley Grammar School

Following the generation of capital receipts from the selling off of excess playing fields subsequent to approval from the Secretary of State for Education, Integrated Design Consultants were appointed to design the next phase of estate improvements at Langley Grammar School which consisted of the following facilities.
- A county sized netball Sports Hall with associated changing and teaching facilities to be used out of hours by the community.
- A six classroom Teaching Block to replace existing temporary buildings.
- An extension and refurbishment to the School’s Science Department to form one additional Laboratory and Preparation Room.
In addition to these works Integrated Design Consultants obtained permission for an all weather, full size, floodlit artificial turf Hockey pitch, and associated drainage works to the school playing fields.
Designed in a traditional style to match recent School additions but with the introduction of curves and splayed angles in plan to control pedestrian movement and produce focal points of interest. The new buildings form a boundary to the school campus and address the inadequate circulation spaces between the new and existing buildings.
The Sports Hall was designed to enable evening and weekend community use and provides first floor teaching and multi-purpose spaces allowing the school to further enhance it’s teaching of the Physical Education and Drama Curriculum. Large internal and external stores provide the school with much needed space to store equipment from both the Sports Hall and Artificial Turf Pitch.
The Teaching Block was designed to house Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Education and all classrooms provide ample storage for equipment. All Teaching Spaces will be equipped with Interactive Whiteboards, which will have services Integrated within the building structure. |
