Slough Sikh Primary
Wexham Road, Slough, Berkshire
New Build
On behalf of the client Integrated Design Consultants undertook a feasibility study that was successfully submitted to the DfES for funds to construct a new Sikh Primary School in Slough.
The project includes a new roundabout to access the school, a caretaker’s house, associated on site infrastructure works as well as the school itself.
The single storey school is a 2 form entry school constructed from a steel frame with rendered walls and profiled metal roof includes a Gudwara hall for community use in addition to the required teaching areas and resources. The school is based around a central hub, formed by the Contemplation hall, from which 4 class wings and 2 multi use halls span out, thus allowing flexibility of use and minimising travel distances between classrooms and common areas.
High level glazing in the class wings allow the circulation spaces to be used as resource and library zones and enabling the use of natural ventilation to ventilate the classroom and circulation areas. Off the circulation areas the class rooms are attached in pairs with shared resources allowing simplicity of design, familiarity of use for the children and connection to the landscaped play/teaching areas.
The project received planning permission in early 2005 and is due on site the summer of 2006 with completion for September 2007.
